A serial rapist known as both the “Night Stalker” and “Moore Park Rapist” has plead guilty to more than a dozen charges relating to attacks on women in the early 1990s in Sydney.
Glenn Gary Cameron, whose identity was concealed via a suppression order since his arrest more than 18 months ago, was accused of assaulting at least eight women between 1991 and 1993 around Sydney’s inner-west and eastern suburbs.
Per ABC News, he pleaded guilty to 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault with a threat to inflict actual bodily harm with a weapon, one count of attempted aggravated sexual assault and one count of assault with an act of indecency.
Cameron also admitted to 14 separate charges, which will be taken into account upon his sentence. These charges include multiple counts of sexual assault with an act of indecency, aggravated sexual assault and detaining a person for advantage, the publication reports.
Nine charges — which Associated Press reports included Cameron punching two women in the head, robbing two women, and hitting another in the face multiple times — were withdrawn by prosecutors.
According to NSW Police, from 1991 to 1993, at least 10 women reported being sexually assaulted in Moore Park and Sydney’s inner-west areas. During this, the then-unknown assailant was dubbed the “Moore Park Rapist” and “Night Stalker” by the media.
However, it wasn’t until February 2024 that Cameran was arrested at Sydney International Airport. Per the AP, a forensic review into the sexual assaults, which included the use of modern DNA and fingerprint technology, was what led to Cameron’s arrest after more than three decades after the incidents.
At the time, a suppression order was put in place, which prevented the media from identifying or reporting on the charges against Cameron. However, the order was revoked in May.
Cameron is set to face NSW District Court on October 24 before his sentencing.
