Serial offender nabbed with knife in his boxer shorts

A serial offender was caught with a knife in his boxer shorts just weeks after being freed early from prison.

Jordan Williamson, 25, was sent back to jail for 20 months when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

He admitted having a blade at Asda in Hamilton’s Palace Grounds on March 2 this year.

The court heard police were called to the store about 7am as Williamson was suspected of shoplifting.

He was detained and taken to Motherwell police station.

Lynn McFauld, prosecuting, said: “He was asked to take off his boxer shorts to allow a full search to be conducted.

“As he started to do this, a black-handled knife with a 3.5-inch blade slid from his underwear.”

An allegation that Williamson stole electrical equipment from Asda was dropped. His not guilty plea to a charge of dealing street valium at an address in Kelvin Gardens, Hamilton, on March 2 was also accepted.

Defence agent Stephen MacBride said Williamson was released from prison on February 5, having served half of a 39-month sentence.

The solicitor stated: “He takes a realistic approach to this latest case as his record does not assist him.

“However, he has been in custody again since March and I have noticed a visible change in his demeanour.

“He wants to make a fresh start when he is released and is studying for qualifications in several subjects.

“He has a bad record and understands it’s up to him to change his lifestyle or else there will be a vicious circle of offending and being sent to custody.”
