Serial offender jailed after having pair of scissors in his pocket on Hamilton street

A serial offender who couldn't explain why he was carrying a pair of scissors has been jailed for 16 months.

Christopher Hogg was arrested after police officers found him slumped in a common close.

They discovered the scissors in his jacket pocket, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard this week.

Hogg, 33, a prisoner, admitted unlawful possession of a bladed item in Donaldson Street on May 11.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, told the court: "This happened about 1.20am.

"Police officers received information that a male was lying in the close.

"They found the accused in an intoxicated state, A pointed object was sticking out of his pocket and it was found to be scissors.

"No explanation for his possession of this item was forthcoming."

Defence agent Ali Murray said dad of one Hogg has served periods in prison before, adding: "He has issues with drugs and alcohol.

"On this night he had consumed both and remembers little or nothing about events."

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre told Hogg: "This is particularly serious because of your record for committing crimes involving weapons or bladed items of one description or another."

The 16-month sentence was backdated to May 11 as Hogg has been in custody since his arrest.
