Serial Lanarkshire domestic abuser jailed again after shoving wife down stairs

A serial domestic abuser has been jailed again after shoving his wife down a flight of stairs.

Dean Blackmore was locked up previously for pouring boiling water from a kettle on the woman's hand.

Blackmore, 42, appeared via videolink at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted assaulting his wife and female neighbour in Russell Place, East Kilbride, on October 9.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said the couple became involved in a "heated exchange" around midnight and neighbours could hear them.

He stated: "The accused punched his wife repeatedly on the head, put his hands around her neck and applied pressure.

"The noise was such that a number of neighbours made their way to the Blackmores' flat.

"A femals neighbour was concerned because she was aware there was a child inside.

"She tried to take the child away, but the accused grabbed her by the neck and held her for a few seconds then pushed her.

"He then turned his attention back to his wife, grabbed her by the throat and pushed her, causing her to fall down a flight of stairs.

"Police officers arrived and Blackmore was arrested.

"His wife refused medical treatment, but bruising could be seen on her face. She told police officers, 'he's my husband and I'm not getting him charged'."

The court heard that Blackmore had been jailed on two previous occasions for domestic violence towards his wife.

His lawyer, Andy Iles, said: "He works offshore and has a good lifestyle, but has serious addiction issues.

"He deeply regrets what he's done."

Sheriff Thomas Millar jailed Blackmore for 14 months, backdated to October 11 as he has been in custody since then.

The sheriff told him: "Hopefully you'll have time while serving the sentence to reflect on matters and change your lifestyle."
