Serial killer Peter Tobin banned from having jail visitors after Covid outbreak on 'beast' wing

Serial killer Peter Tobin is banned from having visitors while he battles cancer after his prison “beast wing” was hit with a Covid lockdown.

Sources said the murderer, who is defying medics’ expectations on his terminal illness, is confined to his cell at Saughton prison while his wing is closed to visitors.

It comes after prison chiefs confirmed 785 prisoners in the prison estate are self-isolating, with a number of those due to potential contact with a confirmed case.

There are 92 confirmed cases of Covid in nine prisons in Scotland.

A prison source said: “The beast wing and half of Ingliston hall at Saughton are locked down because of the virus.

"Tobin, who rarely comes out of his cell, is bored because there’s no contact with anyone except his nurses and prison guards.

“His pals aren’t allowed in to see him while they’re all isolated to help stop the spread. He’s double jabbed and is due his booster soon too as he was vaccinated very early.”

The source added: “He’s still ill with the cancer but he keeps going.

“He’s a horrible old man but he’s really lonely and has had the prison listeners over a few times as nobody else really wants to spend time with him.

"He doesn’t get any visits from the outside either, so whenever anyone ventures into his cell he will talk and talk, especially about what he did. He thinks he’s untouchable.”

The murderer is serving life sentences for killing three young girls between 1991 and 2006.

He butchered Angelica Kluk, 23, Vicky Hamilton, 15 and Dinah McNicol, 18, but has also been linked to a string of unsolved deaths across Britain.
