Serial killer found guilty of murdering young Irishwoman Ciara Glennon in Australia in 1997

A man has been found guilty was killing a young Irishwoman 23 years ago.

Sick serial killer Bradley Robert Edwards, 51, was convicted of killing both Ciara Glennon, 27 and Jane Rimmer, 23, in Claremont, a suburb of Perth, Australia.

Ms Glennon, who was a solicitor, was abducted in March 1997.

Her body was found in bushland in Perth just weeks later.

Her heartbroken father Michael, from Westport in Co Mayo, and her mum Una, from Monaghan, had to identify her remains.

Ms Rimmer went missing in 1996 a year earlier and her body was also recovered in bushland.

Edwards was charged with their murders in December 2016.

Edwards was found guilty more than 20 years after the horrifying crimes, but was acquitted of the of the murder of 18-year-old Sarah Spier, whose body was never found.

The trial was held without a jury at the Central Law Courts in Perth, with Judge Stephen Hall issuing his verdict today, RTE reports.

Edwards, who will be subject to a psychiatric report, will be sentenced on 23 December.

Ciara’s relatives have previously paid tribute to her and spoke fondly of her regular visits to Ireland with her younger sister Denise.

Her uncle Gerry Murphy, from Waterford, said she was a “lovely fun-loving girl.”

He added: “She was full of life, loved the outdoor life and was very into sports.”
