Serial Kenton pest breached restraining order then fled court in taxi before learning fate

A serial pest who breached a restraining order by entering an airport fled court in a cab before hearing his fate.

Anthony Minett, who has previous convictions for spitting on police officers and Nexus workers, was a renowned face at the Newcastle International Airport having repeatedly caused issues there.

It led the 32-year-old being banned by magistrates from entering the premises, unless he had a valid ticket for travel, in 2018, a court was told.

But Minett, of Harehills Tower, in Kenton, has repeatedly breached the restraining order and, earlier this week, was once again found inside the building.

He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court in custody to plead guilty to the offence and was released on bail, with a condition to stay within the confines of the court building, to speak to the Probation Service in order for them to prepare a report.

However, Minett walked straight from the cells to outside the entrance, where he rang for a cab to take him away.

As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Prosecutor, Rebecca Slade, said the restraining order banning Minett from entering the airport was issued on September 21 2018.

She added: "An officer was on duty at Newcastle International Airport on November 2 this week.

"He's made aware by security that the defendant was in the terminal building. He's made his way to the area near the international arrivals and saw the defendant next to the car park ticket machine.

"The defendant stated "I'm just having a seat". The officer informed the defendant he was subject to a restraining order and he was arrested."

The court heard that Minett had 64 offences on his record, including six for breaching the restraining order.

Andy O'Hanlon, defending, said Minett was the first person he'd known who'd been banned from entering an airport.

He continued: "He's got mental health difficulties. He lives in a tower block where he has been subject to bullying.

"He was being abused and didn't know what to do about it, so he gets on the Metro and goes to the airport because that was a place of safety for him and he used to spend the night there."
