Serial drug dealer caught with wraps of heroin and cocaine in trouser waistband

A convicted drug dealer was caught with cash and wraps of heroin in the waistband of his trousers.

Kenode Germain was driving along Corporation Road, Newport , in January this year when he was stopped by police.

Officers found the 35-year-old in possession of a large quantity of cash, and suspected he may be involved in drug dealing.

Heroin wraps and cocaine were found in the waistband of his jogging bottoms following a search in custody.

A search of his home in Bettws uncovered further drugs and equipment.

A court heard it was the third time Germain was facing a conviction for drug dealing.

Prosecutor David Pugh set out the facts of the case at sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday.

Mr Pugh told the court Germaine got out of a car on Corporation Road, Newport, on January 10 this year.

Officers discovered him in possession of a large quantity of cash and suspected him of being involved in drug dealing.

He was arrested and taken to a police station to be searched.

Locked up in Wales, February 2020:

In custody, officers found several wraps of heroin in the waistband of his jogging bottoms and a quantity of cocaine.

Mr Pugh said Germain’s mobile phone was seized. Messages on the phone revealed evidence of drug dealing.

A search of his home in Bettws uncovered more heroin, cocaine and cannabis.

Mr Pugh said the cocaine found in Germain’s possession had a purity of 78% and crack cocaine at 67%.

Germain, of Crouch Close, Bettws, pleaded guilty to three counts of possession with intent to supply cocaine, heroin, and cannabis.

He also pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods in the form of a stolen Audi Q3.

Gareth Williams, defending, said his client deserved credit for his early guilty pleas.

Mr Williams said Germain “fell into old habits” after struggling with employment following his release from prison.

Passing sentence, Judge Daniel Williams said it was the third occasion Germain was facing conviction for serious drug offences.

Germain was given a 44-month prison sentence in 2017 for supplying heroin, and four years for being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon in 2007.

Judge Williams: “You have played a high stakes game Mr Germain, and as you know, you have lost.”

Germain was jailed for a total of six years for the offences.

He will also face a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing on May 22.
