Sergio Romero's wife slams Manchester United over transfer treatment

The wife of want-away Manchester United player Sergio Romero has slammed the club over their treatment of the goalkeeper.

Romero has been frozen out at United after the return of Dean Henderson from his two-year loan with Sheffield United. The Argentinian is now surplus to requirements at the club, though looks set to remain despite deadline day interest. He has not been training with the main United group since the new season began.

MEN Sport understands Everton made an approach for Romero on the final day of the summer transfer window.

But with no immediate move in the offing, Romero's wife Eliana Guercio took to Instagram to share her unequivocal feelings about the Old Trafford club.

She highlighted her husband's role in United's 2017 Europa League victory and performers last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as reasons why he deserves more respect from the club.

"Sergio Romero worked hard for his club," she said. "Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.

"He helped the team reach four finals / semi-finals and then he was left on the bench only to lose them all. It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!"

Solskjaer looks set to keep Henderson and David de Gea as his main two goalkeepers for the coming campaign. It is not yet clear what role, if any, Romero will play at the club if he remains. The 33-year-old has another year left on his contract at United.
