Eliana Guercio, the wife of Manchester United star Sergio Romero, has taken a swipe at the Red Devils following deadline day links to Everton.
The Blues are understood to be discussing the possibility of bringing another goalkeeper to the club with a number of options listed as potential opportunities.
Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Paulo Gazzaniga and Romero were both enquired about by Everton before Roma's Robin Olsen also emerged as a potential target.
And Ms Guercio has now taken to Instagram to launch an attack on the club for not allowing him to leave.
Her message read: "Sergio Romero worked hard for this club.
"Last trophy they won, they lifted it with him.
"He helped the team reach 4 finals/semi finals and then was left on the bench only to lose them all.
"It is time for them to return the opportunity and let him go. RESPECT FOR ONCE!!!"
Everton's search for a new experienced goalkeeper to provide competition for Jordan Pickford, meanwhile, continues into the latter hours of deadline day.
Earlier this morning, the Blues confirmed a deal had been sealed for defender Ben Godfrey.
