Sergio Reguilon to Chelsea: £22.4m transfer fee, Zidane to sanction deal, Chilwell alternative

Chelsea have already added Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to their squad ahead of the new season, with plenty more signings set to follow in the summer transfer window.

Frank Lampard’s side pushing hard to make their Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz their third signing of the summer.

While attention so far has been on attacking additions, the concentration will soon turn to strengthening the defence.

Sergio Reguilón: In profile

Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell has emerged as one of the prime targets, but the asking price could prove to be a big hurdle to overcome.

Therefore, it may force Chelsea to look elsewhere for a new left-back ahead of the new campaign.

One of the names who has been mentioned is Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon, who has impressed on loan at Sevilla this season.

So, here is the latest on the future of the 23-year-old amid interest from both Chelsea and Napoli.

Ben Chilwell alternative

Chelsea may turn to Reguilon as an alternative to top summer target Ben Chilwell.

The Blues and Leicester have been in talks over the England international, but the Foxes are said to be demanding a fee of around £80 million for the defender.

Should a compromise not be reached, it may force Frank Lampard to move onto alternatives, with Reguilon one of the options.

Asking price

Real Madrid are looking for a price of at least £22.5 million for the full back this summer, according to CalcioNapoli24, via Inside Futbol .

He is thought to be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu, having spent the season on loan at Sevilla.

What the player has said

Speaking earlier in the month, Reguilon refused to rule out a summer move, but insisted that his full concentration was on the current season.

“If my year at Sevilla had not been good, then this would not be happening. These teams would not ring,” he told Marca .

“If I am fine, the team is fine and the club is fine, everyone is happy. But I do not think about these possibilities now – I’m sorry if that sounds like a cliché.

“I’ve been saying since quarantine that until the season isn’t over I won’t be talking about my future.

“Until then it would be unfair on myself, my team-mates and the club.

“I have no complaints about anything, about the city, the club, my colleagues. I feel very loved. Who knows what will happen in the future.”

Transfer audition

Chelsea have had the chance to take a close look at the full-back as Sevilla made it past both Wolves and Manchester United in the Europa League.

The defender provided the assist for Sevilla’s opening goal against United and impressed during his audition.

Fans’ verdict

It seemed that fans were also impressed with what they saw of the transfer target, and took to social media to give their thoughts.

Here’s what they said .

Chelsea ‘lead’ race

Chelsea are favourites to sign the full-back this summer, despite interest from Napoli, according to AS (via SportsWitness ).

The report claims that Real Madrid are willing to sell the defender this season in order to raise funds, and the player is keen on a move to the Premier League.

It is said that Chelsea’s ability to offer Champions League football next season has put them ‘in the lead’ for the player this summer.

Chelsea told how much it will cost to seal transfer

According to a report by Sport, Zinedine Zidane is ready to sanction the sale of the left-back, with Madrid ready to let him go for £22.4million.

In today's current market, that seems like a reasonable price for a player who has impressed so much this season.
