Sergio Reguilon showed Man Utd fans what he was all about when he insulted Lionel Messi

Manchester United are eyeing a move for Sergio Reguilon - and the left-back has shown previously they would be getting a fiery character.

The Spaniard is on United's radar after an impressive campaign on loan at Sevilla but Real Madrid's insistence on a buy-back clause is holding up the deal.

United are reluctant to enter into that agreement as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes the £27million-rated 23-year-old.

But Reguilon brings plenty of qualities in a position Solskjaer is keen to upgrade - especially determination and tenacity.

And those qualities were evident when he broke into the Real Madrid side and made headlines in his first La Liga El Clasico and showed he is not easily intimidated.

Reguilon, stepping in for Marcelo before Zinedine Zidane's return as manager, clashed with Barcelona icon Lionel Messi and former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez at the Bernabeu.

He was caught on pitchside microphones branding Suarez "really ugly" in the spat before Messi got involved, only to be branded a "flea" by the youngster as he asked "what's wrong with you?".

Suarez responded with a crying gesture after Los Blancos had been beaten 1-0, their second defeat to their rivals in the space of four days.

But Reguilon certainly ruffled a few feathers and showed he is not intimidated by being on the big stage.

Reguilon later addressed the incident and revealed how he was revved up during one of the biggest games of his career.

“You’re going at a thousand miles an hour in a Clásico,” Reguilon told Onda Cero.

“Really fired up, you say stuff, but look, it’s things that are left out on the pitch: the tension makes you say this stuff.”

He could now bring that tenacity to Old Trafford if they can agree a permanent deal in the coming weeks.
