Sergio Reguilon has given an insight into how he kept fit during lockdown and suggested that he reaches speeds on a football pitch that place him among the world's quickest.
The 23-year-old Tottenham Hotspur left-back joined from Real Madrid this summer alongside team-mate Gareth Bale.
Reguilon has already shown flashes of his pace in his first two starts against Chelsea and Manchester United as he has impressed the Spurs fans.
In an interview with Spanish fitness website Corredor in April he spoke about how he trained during lockdown while on loan at Sevilla.
"We have an application with which they send us the training sessions, which are very hard and last about two hours," he explained.
"I put the tape at 20km per hour because it is the maximum and I have to run about three minutes at that speed to get to notice the breathlessness I feel when I'm playing a game."
When the interviewer, a regular runner, questioned that pace, Reguilon added: "Going at 20km per hour is (swears)."
"I have run at 35km per hour during a match. I do a lot of series at 20km per hour because it is the only way to have a point of fatigue similar to that of a game."
With Sevilla having clocked Reguilon at 35km per hour in a game, that places him amongst the fastest footballers in the world.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe, is the fastest, having been recorded at 36km per hour during a game.
Others in the Premier League who have hit the 35km/h mark are Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (35.5km/h), former Spurs star Kyle Walker (35.21km/h), ex-Manchester City winger Leroy Sane (35.04km/h) and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (35km/h), while Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman also recorded 35km/h.
To put that into context, the fastest man in the world, sprinter Usain Bolt was clocked at 44.72km/h on a track rather than a soft pitch.
Tottenham now have a genuine speedster down the left and on the evidence of his early displays, it's not just about his pace as Jose Mourinho has a star in the making in the Spain international.
