Sergio Ramos to Chelsea: Blues dealt major PSG blow, transfer stance confirmed

Chelsea are on the hunt for a centre-back this summer, despite extending veteran leader Thiago Silva’s deal by one year.

Considering they were only recently crowned Champions of Europe after beating Manchester City 1-0 in May, they are likely to attract some of the world’s biggest stars in that position.

Available on a free transfer, Sergio Ramos is drawing interest from the major European clubs, including PSG and Chelsea.

It seems as though the Blues are no longer favourites to sign him after reports emerged that he has agreed terms with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Let’s take a quick look at all the latest news linking him to a possible move to West London.

Ramos agrees terms with PSG

According to the Chief Football Editor at RMC Sport, Mohamed Bouhafsi, the Spanish defender has agreed to sign a two-year contract with PSG.

Bouhafsi also reports that he is expected to undergo a medical over the course of the next few days.

If reports are true, Chelsea are likely to end their pursuit of Ramos.

Blues make bid

Chelsea have reportedly made an offer to Ramos in the hope of persuading him to move to Stamford Bridge.

That is according to Spanish TV broadcaster, El Chiringuito, who have close connections to the La Liga giants.

Even with this step, any potential deal is still a long way from being completed.

Chelsea dealt blow

Despite reports that Chelsea have approached Ramos, they still have to convince him to join the club.

With that in mind, they have been dealt a fresh transfer blow with Ramos telling three of his former teammates that he will be heading to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to Cadena Cope.

PSG are looking to add some experience to their backline after losing Silva to Chelsea last summer, and look set to rival the Blues for Ramos’ signature.

Ramos on Real exit

Ramos has also opened up on his Real exit and insisted two moves will not happen.

“I never wanted to leave Real Madrid, always wanted to continue here," Ramos explained, per Mirror Football. "The club offered me one year, with a drop in salary. I wanted two years, for me and my family. Then I was told that the offer from the club was no longer there, time had run out, and I had not realised."

He has also ruled out rumoured moves to Barcelona and Sevilla.

Courtois already warned Ramos over Chelsea transfer

A blow that could see Chelsea miss out on Ramos’ signature is the opinion of former Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The Belgian departed Stamford Bridge to sign for Los Blancos in a somewhat acrimonious transfer in 2018.

Shortly after, he shared his thoughts on the differences between Chelsea and Madrid and was particularly scathing of the Londoners.

Talking to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad just months after the move, he said: “In training, you see that the level is high. I am now experiencing on a daily basis that Sergio Ramos is the best centre-back in the world. The level [at Real Madrid] is higher than at Chelsea."

We don’t yet know whether Ramos values Courtois’ opinion on this matter, but it’ll be interesting to see how things unfold.
