Sergio Ramos has sent a heartfelt message to former Real Madrid teammate Raphael Varane ahead of his move to Manchester United.
United agreed an initial £34.2m deal for Varane with Real Madrid earlier this week and are waiting on a medical and paperwork to be signed off in order to officially complete the deal for the 28-year-old World Cup winner.
This comes after months of speculation around a new centre-back, with Ramos also linked when it was announced he was also to leave Real Madrid following 16 years with the Spanish giants.
Ramos moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the end, the team in Varane's place of birth and upon congratulating his former defensive partner on his transfer offered up a cheeky comment too for if they ever crossed paths again in the future.
Posting on his Instagram account, Ramos said: “Dear Rapha, I can only thank you for these years of friendship, companionship, and triumphs, and wish you luck in a new stage that will surely be exciting. If we face each other, always with the team of your country, right? Take care."
The duo formed a world class partnership in central defence, helping Real Madrid win three La Liga titles and four Champions League titles together during their time in the Spanish capital.
Varane is expected to sign a four-year deal with United with the option of an extra year once he arrives in Manchester and undergoes a quarantine period before taking his medical.
He will likely make his debut in the pre-season friendly next weekend against Everton and then could make his competitive debut in the first Premier League game of the season against Leeds United a week later on August 14th at Old Trafford.
