Sergio Ramos pounds the treadmill as Real Madrid captain trains in isolation

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has taken to the treadmill to maintain his fitness while Real Madrid players and staff remain in quarantine.

Sport throughout the world has been thrown into chaos, but players still need to remain fit in case the season restarts within a few weeks.

Ramos has left Real Madrid fans in little doubt over his commitment to the cause by pounding the treadmill as he attempts to retain his sharpness.

In the video posted on his Twitter account, Ramos can be seen running at speed on the inclined machine.

He is shirtless and sweating profusely as the sun beats down outside in the garden.

Wearing a headband and luminous yellow trainers, Ramos speeds up the treadmill before slowing down as part of an intervals programme.

The video was posted with the message: "Teletrabajo. // Teleworking. #YoEntrenoEnCasa #ITrainAtHome".

Real Madrid announced on Thursday that all of their players and staff would be heading into self-isolation after a member of their basketball team tested positive for coronavirus.

"The recommendation of remaining in quarantine has been followed with immediate effect," the club said in an official statement.

"With this measure applied to both the basketball and football first teams, given that the two squads share the facilities at Real Madrid City.

"In addition, a decision has been made to close our training ground and it is recommended that all Real Madrid staff who work at Real Madrid City remain in quarantine.

"The EuroLeague basketball match and the LaLiga football fixture scheduled for today and tomorrow will not be played."

Meanwhile, La Liga as a whole has been suspended for the next two matchdays.

It is a similar story throughout Europe as sport's governing bodies react to the worldwide pandemic.
