Sergio Ramos insists that Spain have recovered their shine after poor World Cup performance

Sergio Ramos says that the managerial and generational changes have helped Spain recover their “shine”, and that they are on an “ideal path”.

The Spanish have scored 12 goals in three successive wins since the dismal second-round exit to the hosts in 2018, with Luis Enrique having introduced a new intensity, and the team showing a youthful vibe through a host of new stars like Paco Alcacer.

The most high-profile retirees were Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique, meaning Ramos and Sergio Busquets are the only players left from the 2010 World Cup win. The centre-half feels they are back to such levels, as he spoke of the team having recovered their shine.

"We have come from days that were not positive. Football is a results business and that's what stays with the people,” Ramos said. “Through the World Cup, the morale was quite low. Through the generational change and the change of coach, we have recovered our order and discipline. We have recovered our results, and our shine. To maintain that excitement of having a unique and fabulous style. It's a good sign and and we're on the ideal path.”

Ramos meanwhile praised a “tremendous” opponent in England, and particularly Harry Kane, but said he wants the striker’s goalless run to continue.

"We know that tomorrow the level of difficulty of the opposition is tremendous. England are a great team. We played a good game at Wembley and want to do it again. They were semi-finalists in the World Cup and have a lot of qualities. With Harry Kane, we're going to try to make sure that goalless run keeps going.

"All of the players impress me. There are players from the Premier League who show the heights of physical levels, but also other qualities. Harry Kane is physically and technically impressive.”
