Sergio Ramos has told former Real Madrid teammates his next move amid Arsenal transfer links

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for a central defender this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his options at the back.

The Gunners had a poor 2020/21 campaign, meaning there will be no European football at the club for the first time in 26 years next season.

Arteta and Edu have the difficult task to improve the squad this summer and they have been very busy so far.

football.london understands that Arsenal are edging closer to completing the signing of England defender Ben White after having an initial £40million offer turned down by Brighton earlier this month.

However, another name that has emerged in the transfer rumour mill is Sergio Ramos, with the Spanish centre-back leaving Real Madrid after 16 years in the capital.

But, the Gunners may have been dealt a fresh transfer blow with Ramos telling three of his Madrid teammates that he will be heading to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to Cadena Cope.

PSG are reportedly keen to add some experience to their defensive lines after losing Thiago Silva on a free transfer last summer, with the Brazilian moving to Chelsea.

Speaking last week, Ramos detailed how he wanted to stay with Real Madrid, but they couldn't agree on a new contract.

"I've never wanted to leave," Ramos said. "The club offered me one year, with a drop in salary. I wanted two years, not for the money, for continuity for me and my family. The economic issue was never a problem.

"Then I decided to accept the offer that I thought was on the table of one year, but I was told that the offer wasn't there any more. They told my agent that the offer had expired a week ago. The truth is I don't know why the offer expired, I can't answer that. There was a negotiation and maybe I misunderstood."
