Sergio Ramos explains Real Madrid red card hope for Man City Champions League fixture

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos hopes the club will appeal the red card he suffered during the defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola's men came from behind to secure a memorable 2-1 victory at the Bernabeu with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne to hand them the advantage heading into the second leg.

Madrid's chances of progression were dealt a significant blow with Ramos receiving his marching orders in the second-half for a cynical foul on Jesus.

The Brazilian raced through on goal and was pulled back by the Spaniard who was given a straight red card meaning he will miss the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium on March 17.

Nevertheless, the Madrid captain has revealed he hopes the club will appeal the decision so he can feature in the game.

"For me, it was a slight touch," he said after the 2-0 win against Barcelona.

"The possibility of appealing is there. For me, definitely.

"Any option of me playing that match, Madrid will look at and I will apply pressure.

"The criteria is relative. Some say yes and others say no.

"That's football and you can't go back. There's still a wonderful game to come."
