Sergio Ramos has added to Real Madrid’s injury woes after it was discovered he had dislocated his shoulder during the 4-0 Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
The centre-half took a theatrical tumble in the opposition penalty area at the Bernabéu on Tuesday, landing heavily on his shoulder, and was substituted shortly afterwards. He was driven to hospital on Wednesday morning and Real said: “Following the tests carried out on Sergio Ramos today in the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, the player has been diagnosed with dislocated acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder. His condition will be evaluated.”
The captain appeared to be in good spirits when he tweeted: “Always with a smile, whatever happens. Working hard to come back stronger. #HalaMadrid.”
Cristiano Ronaldo hit a second-half hat-trick against Shakhtar but the victory came at a cost as Ramo’s team-mate Gareth Bale was also substituted after just half an hour after suffering an ankle injury.
The club was waiting for the swelling to go down before making a diagnosis on the Welshman but they will be hoping both will be fit for their crunch meeting with Atlético Madrid on Sunday 4 October.
