Sergio Ramos discusses Lionel Messi's transfer future amid ongoing Manchester City speculation

New Paris Saint-Germain signing Sergio Ramos has admitted he'd love to play alongside 'the best' Lionel Messi in Paris.

Messi has spent his entire career at Barcelona, scoring an unprecedented 672 goals in 778 games games for the club since making his first-team debut all the way back in 2003. But this summer saw the expiry of his contract, meaning he is technically a free agent currently and free to speak to any team he wants.

Manchester City and PSG have been linked, with their unlimited funds believed to put them among the only clubs that can afford his astronomical wages.

While Messi is believed to have agreed a 50% pay-cut to sign a new five-year deal at the Camp Nou, Ramos has made it clear that he would love to play alongside his long time rival in Paris.

Speaking to Spanish outlet El Mundo after signing a two-year deal with PSG, via Kickoff, Ramos said; ""Leo is one of the best players in the world.

"But it's not up to me. I could tell you a thousand things, but they wouldn't be decisive. Everyone makes the decisions they have to make.

"But I like to be surrounded by the best and I will always have a place for him in my team."

Messi and Ramos had many famous clashes during their time in Spain together, with both men leaders of opposite sides in El Clasico battles between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Ramos left Madrid after 16 years at the club this summer, after club president Florentino Perez withdrew a contract extension offer at the last minute and left the 35 year old without a choice but to leave after his deal expired.

Manchester City have since moved on from their pursuit of Messi, targeting Harry Kane and Jack Grealish instead after it became clear that the 34-year-old Argentine would be renewing his deal.
