Sergio Conceicao has 'expressed an interest' in Newcastle United job but has a huge release clause

Sergio Conceicao has been linked to the soon-to-be vacant manager's role at Newcastle United but reportedly has a huge release clause to break away from his contract at FC Porto.

The 44-year-old only signed an extension to his current deal back in March which ties down him until 2021, and the deal reportedly included an increase in his release meaning any club wanting to take him would have to pay £18million.

The former winger won the Portuguese title in his first year in charge and only missed out on retaining it last season as Benfica pipped them by just two points.

Manager profile: Sergio Conceicao

It has been claimed that Newcastle have already made contact with Conceicao and he has expressed an interest in taking over from Rafa Benitez but Portuguese media outlet Ojogo reports that no contact has yet been made.

Yesterday it was revealed that Sean Dyche, another named strongly linked with the job, has a release clause of £10million - highlighting the struggle United have to confirm a manager currently under contract at another club.

Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira have also been tipped for the role but it is understood that the Newcastle hierarchy are unlikely to make a move until Benitez officially leaves the club on June 30.

The Spaniard could not agree a new deal with the club, and his exit was announced on Monday.
