Sergio Aguero told to snub Premier League transfer to preserve Man City legend status

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has urged Sergio Aguero not to sign for a Premier League rival when he leaves Manchester City this summer.

Aguero will end his ten year association with City this summer after a frustrating year with injuries, and his important goal against Palace on Sunday sent the Blues on their way to a hard-fought win that could seal the Premier League title this weekend.

Taking one touch to control and a second to fire into the roof of the Palace net, Aguero sent a reminder of his enduring quality with just his second Premier League goal of the season, and he now needs just one more goal to equal Wayne Rooney's record of goals for a single club.

With the Argentine available on a free transfer in the summer, Hodgson was asked if he would like to see Aguero remain in the Premier League or move abroad - a subject the Palace manager felt strongly about.

"No I don't know if I'd like to see him play for another club," Hodgson said.

"When you've been such an incredible servant for the club as he has been, and you've reached the legendary status that he has reached, that would put him in the same sort of category as a Gerrard, a Lampard - these type of players, really. Wayne [Rooney] only went to play for Derby as a player/coach. I'd like to put him in that category where they get associated with one club.

"I think there's going to be loads and loads of takers for Sergio Aguero, but I think it would be a pity in some ways if he decides to leave Man City to go to another club in the Premier League because he really should treasure the status that he's built up at Man City. Not only with his goalscoring but also with his record of appearances."
