Sergio Aguero to see knee specialist amid fears Manchester City star will miss rest of the season

Sergio Aguero will be assessed by knee specialist Dr Ramon Cugat over an injury that Pep Guardiola fears will keep the Manchester City striker out for the rest of the season.

The club are yet to provide any confirmation of the nature of the injury, which saw Aguero limp out of the 5-0 win against Burnley on Monday after foul by Ben Mee.

The Argentina international has already been complaining about discomfort during the build up to the game.

The fact that he is visiting Barcelona based Cugat is a measure of City’s concern, with the world renowned specialist previously working with Benjamin Mendy, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin de Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte after they sustained serious knee damage.

In a statement City said: “The striker will now travel to Barcelona to see Dr Ramon Cugat for further examination.

“Everyone at City wishes Sergio the best with his recovery.”

Guardiola revealed his fears about Aguero immediately after Burnley.

The City manager said: “It doesn’t look good. We are going to see tomorrow. He was struggling the last month with a problem in his knee and now he felt something but it doesn’t look good.

"The doctor says it will take time. A few games [out] for sure but maybe tomorrow the tests he will get good news we will see.”
