Sergio Aguero takes Mikel Arteta role in Man City warm up drill before Leicester

Mikel Arteta was replaced by a surprise figure during Manchester City's warm-up before Leicester as Sergio Aguero stepped up to help the forwards practise their finishing.

Rodolfo Borrell, who is staying at the club despite being reported to be wanted by Arteta in his new job as Arsenal manager, was out early to oversee proceedings before the Leicester match and oversaw the passing and control routines that the players go through ahead of every game.

But when it came to the shooting drill, it was Aguero - back in the matchday squad after a month out injured but only on the substitutes' bench - who took the place that Arteta would normally have, feeding the ball for the forwards to strike at goal and putting some pressure on them as they did so.

Aguero then dropped back so that he could have a few efforts on goal himself.

Guardiola has said that Borrell will step up as his No.2 for the rest of the season before the club will look for a permanent replacement for Arteta in summer.

"From now on Rodolfo stays with me, we’ve not had any approach from Arsenal for him," said the manager. "He’ll step up [at City]."

"We’ll continue like this until the summer, with the people that have been here since three years ago. We’ll see what happens in the summer, what we can improve. I've not thought about names."
