Sergio Aguero failed to deliver on his promise not to leave Manchester City until he won the Champions League after his final game for the club ended in defeat.
Underdogs Chelsea emerged victorious thanks to Kai Havertz' breakaway goal in the first half.
City, who played began the game without a striker, were far from their best, and ended as deserved runners-up in Porto.
In his last game for the club, Aguero was named on the bench, but he came on with just under 15 minutes left to play.
The Argentine failed to create any chances of note as City looked to force an equaliser, perhaps showing why that was indeed his last game in a Sky Blues shirt.
Aguero has announced he is leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer when his contract expires after 10 years at the club.
However, he should be battling on for another year based on his comments from back in 2014, having insisted he will not leave City until they win the Champions League.
During a disappointing group stage in the 2014/15 season, Aguero promised to see out his new contract, but then went as far as to say he'd be at the club until they ended their duck.

"Not only will I stay the four years to make it eight here in total," Aguero told the Daily Mail seven years ago.
"I’ll stay beyond that — until we win it."
At the time, Aguero was being compared with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but he said he needed to perform in the Champions League to win match their credentials and challenge for a Balon d'Or - another accomplishment he sadly failed to do.
"It’s great to be mentioned in the same breath as those players,’ he added. "But when you mention Messi and Ronaldo, for me those guys are from another planet in football terms.
"Maybe I need to put in some good performances in the Champions League in order to be considered seriously to win the Ballon d’Or.
"If we don’t do well in the next two games and get knocked out, the only way I’m going to win that award is by scoring 70 goals in the Premier League this season."
