Sergio Aguero reveals what went through his mind after breaking Thierry Henry's Premier League record

Sergio Aguero admits he immediately targeted a record breaking hat-trick after becoming the highest foreign Premier League goalscorer in Manchester City's demolition of Aston Villa.

Aguero's first two goals against Villa wrote himself into Premier League history as he surpassed Thierry Henry's record of 175 to become the highest overseas goalscorer.

His hat-trick goal, assisted by the impressive Riyad Mahrez, gave him a second record as he now has one more match-ball than Alan Shearer's 11.

And Aguero revealed after the game how he knew Shearer's record was in sight as soon as he broke Henry's tally with his second goal against Villa.

He told Sky Sports: "I am so happy for the record but thank you to my team-mates because they help me in this match. I am so happy.

"It shows when I scored the second, then I think 'one more I break the record for hat-tricks'. I want to keep scoring more goals but it all depends on my team-mates. If he pass to me, it's fine. [Mahrez]"

Aguero also moved level with Frank Lampard as the fourth highest Premier League goalscorer, and sits 83 goals behind Shearer as the Premier League's all-time scorer.

Naturally, Aguero was asked about his chances of reaching that total, and the City striker said he will do his best to catch Shearer.

"I will try," he laughed.

"To far to Shearer, he has too many goals so I don't know. Maybe, I will try."
