Sergio Aguero reveals he begged Vincent Kompany not to shoot Man City's winning goal vs Leicester

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero joked that he’d been begging captain Vincent Kompany not to shoot when the Belgian unleashed the 25-yard wonder strike that kept his side’s title dreams alive.

City needed to beat Leicester City at home on Monday night to keep their title hopes in their own hands heading into next weekend’s final day of the season.

However, they struggled to breakdown a resolute defence, with Aguero himself coming closest to finding a breakthrough when glancing a header onto the bar that was then clawed out by Kasper Schmeichel.

Just as the title initiative looked to be heading back to Liverpool, though, Kompany stepped up with a brilliant strike that arrowed into the top corner to earn City a 1-0 win and send them back to the top of the Premier League.

The goal was Kompany’s first shot on target from outside the box since 2013, and after the game Sky Sports’ cameras caught Aguero telling his skipper that he’d been pleading with him not to waste possession, saying: “I tell you no shoot! No! No!”

Luckily for City, the Argentine striker couldn't have been more wrong - and one more win on the final day of the season (away to Brighton) will seal the title for the champions.
