Sergio Aguero has been forced to deny reports he may have to retire due to his heart issue identified after suffering chest discomfort in a recent game for Barcelona.
Aguero, who left Manchester City in the summer after a record-breaking ten-year spell, was making just his fifth appearance for Barcelona against Alaves two weeks ago when he complained of a potential cardiac issue and was immediately transferred to hospital for tests.
Barcelona confirmed that as a result of those examinations, Aguero would be out of action for at least three months, saying: "Kun Aguero has undergone a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure by Dr. Josep Brugada. He is unavailable for selection and during the next three months the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process."
Aguero himself responded to the many messages of support he received - including from City and former Blues teammates - to confirm he was in good spirits.
He said: "I am well and in good spirits to face the recovery process. I want to thank you all for so many messages of support and affection that make my heart stronger today."
This week, however, Aguero has had to make another statement after reports originating in Spain that doctors are pessimistic about his chances of playing again, and he may have to retire from football.
In response, Aguero posted on Twitter to say no decision will be made on his future for at least the three month period set out by Barcelona.
He said: "Given the rumours, I tell them that I am following the indications of the club's doctors, doing tests and treatment and seeing my progress within 90 days. Always positive."
