Sergio Aguero wants an existing Manchester City player to take his number 10 squad number, rather than it go to a new signing.
With Aguero leaving after the Champions League final, City are in the market for a new striker. Harry Kane, Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland have all been linked, with all befitting of a high profile squad number like the soon-to-be-vacant no.10.
However, Aguero doesn't want to see any incoming player take over the shirt number he has donned since 2015, as he had two current City players in mind to change squad numbers over the summer.
Speaking on his Twitch stream, via City Report, Aguero named Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden as the two contenders among City's current squad to inherit the no.10.
"I think the No.10 shirt should be given to Phil Foden," he said.
"Some say Kevin. The thing is, I believe Kevin used his number [17] at other clubs, so I don't think he would change it. That's why I think Phil Foden."
Aguero might have his facts wrong, as De Bruyne only started wearing 17 at City, having worn 14 at Genk and Wolfsburg and 15 at Chelsea.
Foden, meanwhile, has previously explained his no.47 squad number.
The Mail reported in 2019 that Foden has been asked if he wants to change from his original squad number, but has politely declined due to the sentimental value that 47 holds for him and his family.

They report that 47 is the age his grandfather Ronnie passed away, and that the number 'is a nod to his heritage, a permanent symbol of the weight of family pride he carries.'
So while Foden might retain his own unique squad number for the time being at least, he at least has the backing of a true club legend to be given the number ten.
Also in his Twitch stream, Aguero described Foden as a "crack player", a term meaning 'world class'.
