Sergio Aguero plays down Barcelona transfer rumours amid uncertain Man City future

Sergio Aguero has told people to "hold on a little" as rumours continue to swirl over a move to Barcelona.

The Manchester City striker is out of contract at the end of the season and there are no indications that a fresh offer is due.

Aguero has been injured for large parts of this season, but since returning has barely been used by Pep Guardiola.

Barcelona could lose Lionel Messi in the summer so a new forward could be on their shopping list.

But the Argentine has been keen to quash the rumour mill by saying on his official Twitch channel : “They are all writing Barca, Barca, Barca.

“Let's hold on a little, have a look. Stop. We are still with City.”

Aguero moved to the Etihad a decade ago and will forever be a part of the club's history courtesy of his iconic goal in 2012.

The now 32-year-old has been a leading light for large periods and is City's all time leading goalscorer with 256.

Guardiola has said that as a person he would love to keep Aguero on the blue half of Manchester.

But he has suggested that tough decisions may need to be made as he acknowledges he cannot give the striker the minutes he needs.

“Maybe I will think about it when the international break starts and I have more time,” he said.

“As a human and as a person – even as a player of course [I’d like him to stay]. But we have to see what happens at the end of the season.

“We cannot forget how long he was out. He has started getting better.

"I know he needs minutes to get to his best condition but we are not [able] to give him minutes [purely] for minutes because it is an important part of the season.

“We have to be calm, the club will speak to his agent to know the situation and we are going to talk at the end of the season. It’s the same with Fernandinho.”
