Sergio Aguero issues apology after horror Man City moment vs Chelsea

Sergio Aguero has apologised after an embarrassing penalty miss cost Manchester City what could have been a title-winning three points against Chelsea.

City’s all-time record goalscorer was made to look like a bit of a fool after his cheekily dinked Panenka was graciously held by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy shortly before the break at the Etihad.

City would’ve gone 2-0 up had he scored, after Billy Gilmour fouled Gabriel Jesus in the box, and that may have completely changed the complexion of the game, with Pep Guardiola's men needing three points to confirm they had regained their Premier League crown.

Instead, Aguero tried the spectacular, and Chelsea went on to turn it all around, thanks to a second-half goal from Hakim Ziyech and a late winner from defender Marcos Alonso.

The striker understandably may have felt embarrassed by his questionable attempt, and he has since apologised to everyone at Manchester City on Twitter.

“I would like to apologise to my teammates, staff and supporters for missing the penalty. It was a bad decision and I take full responsibility,” he said.

It seems all has been forgiven pretty quickly, however, which was emphasised by teammate Raheem Sterling, who replied by saying: “Easy hermano. Only ourselves to blame today but we go again. Love bro.”

Of course, had the pressure been on City to perform, then the attempt may have been received differently. However, with only three points needed from three remaining games – providing rivals Manchester United win the five games they have remaining - they should cruise to the title.

The next time the two teams meet will be on the biggest stage in European football, as pending confirmation it is safe to go ahead as planned in Istanbul, Chelsea and City will go head-to-head in the Champions League final.
