Sergio Aguero injury update after absence from Man City's thrashing of Burnley

Pep Guardiola has insisted that the knee problem that forced Sergio Aguero to miss the 5-0 romp over Burnley is not serious.

The Manchester City striker was left out of Guardiola's plans after Aguero reported that he was in some discomfort at training on Friday.

The Argentine underwent ligament surgery in the summer and then suffered a hamstring strain at West Ham last month after making a brief comeback.

He returned to action as a substitute in the midweek Champions League win at Olympiakos.

But the club's all-time record scorer woke up in pain a few hours before the visit of the Clarets.

Guardiola said: “It is not a serious problem and we hope he will be able to train again tomorrow.

“He had a little bit of pain in the knee. These things can happen when you come back from the kind of injury Sergio had.

“We will see but we don't think that it is a big problem.”

Riyad Mahrez scored a fine hat-trick in the victory, with Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva both rested.

Asked about rotation amid a busy December period, Guardiola said: “It depends on the players if they stay in the team. If they are fit and playing well then I won't rotate.

"I will play them until they are tired.

“This will help, especially Riyad, but the others like Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling also have to score goals when they play.”
