Sergio Aguero injury: Manchester City striker ruled out of Cardiff City clash

Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of Manchester City's Premier League meeting with Cardiff City on Wednesday night.

Aguero was substituted during the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Fulham with a muscle injury.

The Argentine has not trained in the days since and will not recover in time to face Neil Warnock’s side at the Etihad.

“He didn’t train the last two days and tomorrow is not able,” Pep Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference.

Guardiola hopes that Aguero will be able to return in time for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Brighton and Hove Albion at Wembley.

The City manager suggested, however, that the striker may only be able to return for next Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Gabriel Jesus is expected to lead City’s line. The Brazilian has had to play second fiddle to Aguero for much of the season, but Guardiola is confident he is ready to step in.

“Of course. He makes a good season,” the City manager said of Jesus. ”Always it is not easy to play in this club, a striker in the same position as Sergio.

“The best season he has been together with Sergio is this one. He is a respectful guy. Tomorrow he is going to help us and fight and score goals.”
