Sergio Aguero gives update on Man City future amid Independiente transfer links

Sergio Aguero claims his future plans are on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Aguero, 31, has stated he may leave Manchester City when his current deal expires next June to return to his first club Independiente in his native Buenos Aires.

The Argentina striker, who is City’s all-time leading scorer with 254 goals, spent nine years with  before joining Atletico Madrid in 2006.

Aguero has strong ties with his beloved Independiente and has always said he wants to end his career with them.

However he claims he is not thinking about his future because there is so much uncertainty over when football will return.

Aguero told TyC Sports: “For now, I’m not thinking about what to do. With all this, the clubs are having problems.

“Up until next year, it can be extended for two months or more.

"There are players who end contracts this year and if it is played in July, August or September, the clubs are going to have problems.

“I don’t know if they can renew with players for three months or six. The first thing is to end this season and hit everything next.”

Earlier this month, it emerged that Argentine club Independiente are ramping up their efforts to snatch Aguero  back from  Manchester City  this summer.

According to reports in South America, the seven-times Copa Libertadores winners have launched 'Operation Aguero' in a bid to persuade the 31-year-old striker to return to the side that kick-started his career.

Independiente coach Lucas Pusineri, a former team-mate of Aguero's, has been at the centre of a charm offensive to tempt the former Atletico Madrid star back to Buenos Aires.

And he spoke out again about the move happening.

Pusineri said: “We are saving him [Aguero] the No.10 shirt. I have a beautiful friendship with Kun and hopefully I can be his coach tomorrow.

“Hopefully I can meet him again at the club. He must be encouraged by a good project that will surround him well.

“I am excited to see him at Independiente again. I was once his team-mate and now I want to be his coach.

“The steps are being taken and hopefully he can return with good effect and give joy to the fans of the reds.”
