Sergio Aguero gives Man City huge boost on transfer deadline day

Manchester City have been given the best deadline day boost of all – with Sergio Aguero joining squad training for the first time in four months.

The Blues ’ all-time top goalscorer has been out since damaging a meniscus in his knee against Burnley in June, an injury which required surgery.

And with Gabriel Jesus also picking up a problem in their first fixture, at Wolves, City have had to cope without either of their strikers for the last fortnight.

Aguero has been slated to return after the current international break, and Jesus is on a similar timescale.

That is fortunate, as Raheem Sterling has pulled out of the Engand squad with a minor hamstring problem – that is thought to be precautionary, but there has to be a doubt whether he will be fit to face Arsenal on October 17.

Aguero is back in training with a handful of players, as the vast majority are away on international duty.

City have been gradually strengthening after losing seven players through injury and positive Covid-19 tests.

Ilkay Gundogan is now back in training, while Joao Cancelo has been called up by Portugal, suggesting he is also ready to return.

With Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez also returning after periods of self-isolation, City are getting close to full strength again.
