Sergio Aguero can set new Premier League record vs Chelsea - and Frank Lampard's side should be scared

Among Manchester City’s array of world class attacking talent, Sergio Aguero is a particular nightmare to defend against.

Chelsea are set to visit Manchester this weekend, as Pep Guardiola’s men look to bounce back from their crushing 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

And when the London club last visited the Etihad, in February, City recorded a stylish 6-0-win, courtesy of two goals from Raheem Sterling, one from Ilkay Gundogan and an impressive Sergio Aguero hat-trick.

The performance was scintillating, and three months later, after a thunderous Vincent Kompany strike from distance against Leicester, City would eventually become the first team to defend the Premier League title since 2009.

Aguero was vital to City’s successful defence of their title last season, bagging 21 goals, while also recording 8 assists, making it hard to imagine a starting XI without the tenacious and prolific Argentinean.

However, when Guardiola first arrived in 2016, there were questions surrounding Aguero’s future at the club. Three years on and Aguero has, unsurprisingly, answered his critics and once again this campaign he’s clicked into deadly first gear, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.

But as the Citizens prepare to welcome Chelsea at home on Sunday, Frank Lampard’s men will be more wary than usual, of Aguero.

This is because, incredibly, Aguero has scored more Premier League goals against Chelsea (10) than any other player in the competitions history.

Aguero clearly thrives when playing against Chelsea, and his last hat-trick in the league also came against City’s weekend opponents. That also meant Aguero is now level with Alan Shearer (11) on most Premier League hat-tricks.

While Shearer’s all-time Premier League record of 260 goals seems an unrealistic target for Aguero, who is now 31 years old, it would be no surprise to see the City man smash the Premier Leagues hat-trick record.

And with one of Aguero’s favourite opponents set to visit, it would be no surprise if, once again, he delivers a magical performance.
