Sergio Aguero agrees with Man City fans' theory over constant awards snub

Sergio Aguero says the fact he plays for Manchester City is one reason behind his lack of individual awards throughout his brilliant career.

Aguero is City's all-time record goalscorer, winning 16 trophies for Atletico Madrid and City. In the Premier League, he has scored at least 20 goals in six of his eight seasons in England. This season, before the campaign was suspended, Aguero was on 16 goals from 22 appearances.

However, despite Aguero's influence in front of goal that has helped City to domestic dominance, the 31-year-old is always overlooked for the end-of-season individual honours handed out to players.

Incredibly, Aguero has only been named in two PFA teams of the year - something fans are adamant is because he plays for City and his consistent output is taken for granted.

Now, Aguero has commented on the debate, saying that playing for City has counted against him when it comes to the big awards from the PFA trophy to the Ballon d'Or.

Aguero also pointed to his failure to win the Champions League as a contributing factor as he told TyC: "Every player wants to win the Ballon d'Or, but the Champions League has a lot to do with it.

"My best year, last year, we won four titles but we had no luck there.

"I was not nominated even in the first ten and that's because you need more there. I think I am there, but not because I say so but because of the years I had in City and the numbers.

"As much as you play 85 minutes well, if you do a bad one you stay out."
