Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has revealed that speculation linking him with a transfer to Manchester United was "paper talk".
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was eager to bolster his midfield options over the summer with reports in Italy claiming the Milinkovic-Savic was on his shortlist.
The Serbian has emerged as one of the top players in the Serie A following two tremendous seasons with Lazio.
However, the MEN understands that while he was previously targeted by United, there was no interest in bringing the 24-year-old to Old Trafford over the summer.
Instead, United were focused on keeping Paul Pogba at the club while strengthening their defence, which led to the club paying £80million to sign Harry Maguire.
Now, Milinkovic-Savic has opened up on the speculation which linked him with a move to Manchester.
"I never said I wanted to leave Lazio, I feel good here," he told Sport Plus. "'I never mentioned a possible transfer to Manchester United and it was just paper talk. New commitments await me with Lazio."
Reports have also linked Paris St Germain with a move for the powerhouse and Lazio's president Claudio Lotito conceded he would be unable to stand in the player's way if their valuation of him was met.
Lolito said: "Last year I managed to reject the assaults. This year we could propose a matter of respect if the player were to propose a different solution."
Millinkovic-Savic is under contract with the Italian side until 2023 after penning a new deal last year.
