Serge Onik dead: So You Think You Can Dance dancer and choreographer dies aged 33

Serge Onik has died aged 33.

The So You Think You Can Dance star's death was confirmed on Tuesday but no cause of death has been revealed as of yet.

The dancer and choreographer was best known for appearing on season 11 of the hit show in 2014. He placed in the top 14 of the contest before being eliminated in round four.

He was born in the Ukraine before moving to the United States at the age of three.

As well as his appearance on the dance competition, Serge helped out with the show's choreography and also was on hand to help the US Olympic figure skating team with their training and routines.

He featured elsewhere on screen, with appearances on the likes of Marvel's Agent Carter, Bones, and Jane the Virgin, while he also appeared with Kirstie Alley on her 2012 web series 100 Days of Dance.

His most recent appearance came in In the Heights, which directed by Jon M Chu and released in June.

While he said he was "literally on screen for two seconds" he was honoured to have been a part of the project.

As well as his on-screen appearances, Serge taught classes at the Broadway Dance Center in New York City.

Jim Keith, president of The Movement Talent Agency which was Serge's representative, told Entertainment Weekly: "He was an amazing dancer with a huge heart and he touched the lives of everyone who met him.

"He will be truly missed. This is a sad day for us at the agency and for the dance community as a whole."

Professionals dancers were among those paying their respects online, with Tony Dovolani and Anna Trebunskaya leaving heartfelt comments.

His followers also took to social media to express their sadness at the news.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "The world lost Serge Onik today. He touched the figure skating world through his crossover from dance into skating choreography.

"I did not personally know him but I sure benefited from his creative genius. To those who knew and loved him, my heart is with you."

And a third commented: "RIP Serge...A blow to the dance community and your fans of which I count myself amongst!"
