Serge Gnabry’s Tottenham and Chelsea dig as ex-Arsenal winger prepares to face England at Wembley

Former Arsenal ace Serge Gnabry has been speaking about playing in London again as Germany prepare to face England at Wembley in the Euro 2020 Round of 16 and he couldn’t resist the urge to direct a dig at two of the Gunners’ fiercest rivals, Tottenham and Chelsea.

The German has blossomed into one of football’s most talented attacking talents since returning to his homeland and he helped Bayern Munich on their way to Champions League glory in 2020.

He netted nine times in Bayern’s route to the final that year and memorably scored six goals in just two games in England’s capital.

Gnabry was the star of the show as Bayern embarrassed Spurs 7-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, scoring four times that night, and he later added a brace when his side ran out 3-0 winners at Stamford Bridge in the Round of 16 in the same competition.

Thus, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t exactly had any unhappy returns to London just yet. England fans will be hoping that changes on Tuesday evening, however.

Speaking to the official Bayern website, Gnabry said: “So far I’ve done very well when I’ve come back to London, hopefully on Tuesday as well.

“For me, there’s always a lot of history when we go to England because I still have some friends there as well. Hopefully they’ll be in the stadium.

“I've never played at Wembley before. I personally and we as a team are really looking forward to the game.”

Although international football is completely different to the club setting, Gareth Southgate’s side will be aware of Gnabry’s attacking threat. He may not have played at Wembley before, but his record in London suggests that he could enjoy the conditions.
