Tottenham Hotspur full-back Serge Aurier has revealed he wanted to seal an exit from North London in the summer transfer window and admits he is still unsure what the future holds.
The former Paris Saint-Germain defender made just eight appearances in the Premier League last season after being largely used as a back-up by Mauricio Pochettino.
Kieran Trippier's move to Atletico Madrid has opened the door for more regular opportunities this term, with the Ivorian earning three league appearances and featuring once in the Champions League.
Despite that, Aurier has still fired a warning that he could seek an exit from Spurs if regular football is not guaranteed as he believes he is at a stage in his career when he needs consistent action.
"I was looking for an exit, so I couldn't play. When you're trying to move, you can't play because an injury or whatever else can scupper everything," he said while on international duty.
"I wanted to leave so it was normal for me not to be on the pitch. Beyond that, it's the manager's decision. He's the one who decides what's best for the group.
"Like I've said, the season is long so we'll try and be better going forward and for what comes next. That desire to leave, I think it's a bit normal. I'm an important player of the national team. I'm not 20 anymore and I need to play, to be happy."
