A hilariously terrible noir-cum-brainteaser from Steven Knight, starring Matthew McConaughey’s bottom.
Sexy, tormented sailor Baker Dill (McConaughey) misses his teenage son (Rafael Sayegh) and is still furious with his ex-wife (Anne Hathaway), who’s now married to a vicious drunk. Dill gets naked a lot, obsesses over a fish called Justice, and when his ex-wife suggests he murder her husband, pouts.
But there’s a twist! Soon Dill is roaring and chuckling like King Lear on the heath. There’s no law that says profound drama can’t involve OTT acting and copious shots of a posterior, but here you wish dull Dill would jump into the sea and stay under.
The only people who’ll enjoy Serenity are dim-witted men who wish they were McConaughey and/or self-loathing women who wish they were bonking him. If these demographics join forces, Serenity could become a surprise hit.
