Serengeti - which for years has claimed to make ‘the world’s finest driving sunglasses’ - has released their best pair yet; the classic ‘Agostino’.
Moving away from the wraparound or usual aviator style, these highly elegant driving ‘shades’ incorporate a thin, lightweight metal frame that - while highly contemporary - has a pleasing hint of retro too, with lovely deep, highly effective, lenses.
Shapes and styles are a personal thing but I think these are the best-looking pair Serengeti has produced for a long time. After testing them behind the wheel, I’m -impressed with how they enhance your driving vision too.
The firm claims that the sunglasses boast a unique ‘3-in-1’ lens, combining Polarized, Photochromic and Spectral Control technologies to reduce glare, adjust to the light conditions of the moment, and filter unwanted light wavelengths.
That all sounds rather technical but think of it like this; it’s a bit like playing around with developing your own photos with a smartphone app or on Adobe Lightroom. You’ll be familiar with how a few deft adjustments (with contrast, highlights exposure, shadows etc..) dramatically boost what you’re looking at. This is what the Agostinos seem to do too.
They efficiently cut glare but - especially against the backdrop of a road stretching into the distance - appear to enhance your vision, helping you pick out outlines, objects and of course hazards. They bring shapes and colours into greater relief, especially on bright days although they achieve an impressive effect on duller days too.
Serengeti says the lenses are chemically tempered for scratch and impact resistance. An anti-reflective coating is added to the back of the lens too.
The very stylish £216 with Matte Gold frame and Polarized Drivers Gold Ultra-Light Mineral Lens, isn’t cheap but it is impressive.
