Serena Williams' Wimbledon 2019 outfit set to sparkle as she eyes 24th Grand Slam

Serena Williams returned to Wimbledon on Wednesday as she began preparations in her bid to win for a staggering eighth time at SW19.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner was back at the All England Club ahead of the tournament's beginning on Monday, July 1.

The American has dominated on grass like few others down the years, appearing in 10 finals since 2002.

This time around, as speculation swirls - as ever - that it could be her final Wimbledon sponsors Nike have got creative with her outfit.

Williams, who also runs her own line of designer apparel - "Aneres" - has previously caused a stir at the tournament with some of her clothing options; notably a trench coat that she warmed up in during the 2008 competition.

This time around it is somewhat more understated, with a sewn Swoosh brooch made with Swarovski crystals.

Made up of 34 crystals - representing the age at which Serena won her most recent Wimbledon (2016) - already it has been handed its own nickname: "The Broosh."

Abby Swancutt, Global Design Director for NikeCourt, declared: "I also wanted her to feel like it was something her grandmother could have worn, but of course give it a modern spin and make it just right for Serena."

Williams, the world No.12, turns 38 in September and hasn't won any event since the 2017 Australian Open.

But she arrived for practice on Wednesday in celebratory mood, after it was announced that she would be on the box of Wheaties in the States for the first time.

“I have dreamt of this since I was a young woman and it’s an honor to join the ranks of some of America’s most decorated athletes," Williams said in a statement on the General Mills blog.

"I hope my image on this iconic orange box will inspire the next generation of girls and athletes to dream big.”

Can she win her 24th Grand Slam title this summer? Despite her recent struggles, she enters as second favourite at 13-2, behind only Ashleigh Barty.
