Serena Williams thrashes Qiang Wang in just 44 minutes to reach US Open semi-final

Serena Williams put on a ruthless display to storm past Qiang Wang and reach the US Open semi-finals.

The 37-year-old destroyed the hapless 18th seed 6-1, 6-0, taking just 44 minutes to wrap up the victory and book her spot in the semi-final for the 13th time.

She will face Elina Svitolina in the last four after the Ukrainian beat Johanna Konta in straight sets.

Wang had not dropped a set in the entire tournament and shocked world number two Ashleigh Barty in straight sets in the fourth round.

But playing against the 23-time Grand Slam winner in her first quarter-final proved to be a test too difficult.

Williams began in dominant fashion, holding to love before dictating play on Wang's serve and had a 3-0 lead inside the first eight minutes.

The nerves appeared to cripple the 18th seed and she struggled to get anything off Williams - a massive contrast to the player who had shocked Barty just days ago.

Inside 23 minutes, Williams had wrapped up the first set, although Wang was spared the embarrassment of a bagel in the first set.

There was no relenting in Williams' dismantling of Wang, taking a 3-0 lead once again and showing an unrivaled level of power.

Once she had secured the triple break, there was no stopping Williams. On her own serve at 5-0 up, she almost looked apologetic for her opponent as she served out the match - the quickest at the tournament so far.

With Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep and Karolina Pliskova all out, there is surely no one who can stop the American from taking her 24th Grand Slam title.
