Serena Williams decided to donate all of her prize money for winning the WTA Auckland Classic championship to Australian bushfire relief efforts.

The former world No. 1 had also donated the outfit she was wearing during the games to raise funds for relief efforts.

Serena earned $200,000 after winning the singles title by defeating fellow American Jessica Pegula.

"I've been playing in Australia for over 20 years and it's been really hard for me to watch all the news and everything that has been happening in Australia with all the fire," she said.

The 23-time grand slam champion, added: "Many incidents took place which made me donate the outfit I wore in the matches, as well as the prize money I received to support this major cause."

With this move, Serena has joined many national and international athletes who donated to help the people affected by Australia's bushfires.

On Wednesday, organizers announced that Serena Williams along with many tennis stars including the Swiss Roger Federer and Spanish Rafael Nadal have agreed to play in an exhibition match scheduled ahead of the Australian Open later this month, to raise funds for Australia's bushfire relief.
