Serena Williams continues quest for eighth Wimbledon title after brushing aside Carla Suarez Navarro

Serena Williams is on the road to winning her eighth Wimbledon title after a comfortable victory over Carla Suarez Navarro to reach the quarter-finals.

The 37-year-old, who hasn't won at SW19 since 2016, is looking in good shape to end that run after conceding just four games to Suarez Navarro.

The Spaniard only won her serve twice in the match and was thoroughly outclassed as Williams needed just an hour and four minutes to win 6-2, 6-2 on No 1 Court.

Despite playing in just five tournaments in 2019 due to injury, Williams looked sharp on court, perhaps owing to her mixed doubles matches with Andy Murray.

She had dominated the head-to-head against Suarez Navarro, winning all seven of their previous clashes with the 30th seed never winning more than three games in a set.

And it looked ominous for the 30-year-old when she was broken in the first game before Williams held onto her own serve.

She finally came into the game, breaking back at 2-2, but Williams moved into a level of her own like she always seems to do winning the next six games and wrapping up the first set 6-2.

The second was almost identical, with the 23-time Grand Slam winner dominating the match with a hat-trick of backhand winners in one game the highlight before clinching victory in just over an hour of play.

She will face fellow American Alison Riske in the quarter-finals, after she knocked off world number one Ashleigh Barty on Monday.
