Serbia could lose trio over Covid-19 rules ahead of Ireland clash

Serbia could be missing three players for Wednesday’s clash with Ireland because of Covid-19 rules.

New boss Dragan Stojkovic fears French-based trio Predrag Rajkovic, Stefan Mitrovic and Mihailo Ristic could be stranded.

French clubs have been told not to release players if their national teams are playing outside the EU.

But the Serbian FA are working behind the scenes to try and solve the matter.

"There are indications that some of them might miss our opening three games," said Stojkovic.

Stojkovic also defended his decision to retain Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic ahead of the Ireland game.

"People are right to ask why he's been called given his poor recent form and limited game time,” he said.

“But I believe in him and I am ready to support him. He needs to restore his confidence and he can't do that on the sidelines."
