September Issue of Merit Culture Offers Section on Psychological Study of Literature

The Merit Culture Magazine

The Merit Culture Magazine, issued by Cairo-based Merit House, covers important literary topics in its September issue.

The magazine's top section, entitled "Psychological Study of Literature…About Mustapha Suef and his Students," includes five articles: "Mustafa Suef…Beginnings and Conclusions," by Dr. Ahmed Youssef Ali; "Poetry Criticism from a Psychological Perspective," by Dr. Bahaa Mohammed Mazyad; "Hidden History of Poetry…from Al-Aṣma'i and Jahiz to Mustafa Suef," by Dr. Abu al-Yazid al-Sharkawi; "Brilliance of Poet from Psychological, and Cultural Perspective," by Dr. Maher Abdul Mohsen; and "Reading in Creativity of Hassan al-Mouden and Shaker Abdul Hamid," by PhD candidate Rasha al-Fawal.

The "Around the World" section offers two translations about the same topic. Lama al-Hosnieh (Syria) translated the second chapter of "Freud and Said: Contrapuntal Psychoanalysis as Liberation Praxis, (2001)," a book by Egyptian-American Robert Beshara; and Tarek Farraj translated an article by Bengal Writer Mohammed Maarouf Hussein entitled "Psychoanalysis Theory in English Literature: Descriptive Study."

"The intermission between several generations of Arab critics has contributed to overlooking the achievements of many prominent figures in this field. The inclination of many modern Arab researchers to the western literary theories and experts made them neglect Arab authors," said the magazine's editor in chief in the issue's introduction.

The "Critical Visions" section includes six articles: "A Prose Poem in Poetry of Muhammad al-Maghout," by Dr. Awad al-Ghabari; "Dialectic of Writing and Time between Criticism and Philosophy," by Dr. Mohammed Selim Shousha; "Haiku Structure…Toriawaise," by researcher and poet Hosni al-Tuhami; and "Poetry Features in Modern Narration Language," by Dr. Rashid Wadiji (Morocco).

In the "Poetry and Story" section, you can read ten poems and seven stories written by poets and writers from Egypt and the Arab region.

The "Noun Al Neswa" section discusses the novel "Cotsica" by Ghada al-Absi with four articles: "Cotsica…House of Memory," by Dr. Nahla Rahil; "Center and Margin in Cotsica by Ghada al-Absi," by Dr. Ahmed al-Zafiri (Iraq); "Reading in Alternating Narrative," by Dr. Mohammed Wanann Jasim (Iraq); and "Straight Shadows of Inclined History," by research Al Tayed Khalidi (Algeria); in addition to a new story titled "Promise of Saxony," by Ghada al-Absi.

In the "Cultures and Arts" section, readers can enjoy an interview with Egyptian author Hamdi Abu Jalil. In the "History" section, the magazine published an article by Dr. Ali Afifi Ali Ghazi about "Menes and Unification of Egypt."

In the "Investigation" section, journalist Aya Yasser seeks to answer an old persisting question: How did the Zionist literature discuss the Palestinian cause? The "Opinion" section features an article titled "Philosophy of Indifference: Art of Benefitting from Struggle," by Dr. Mohammed Kezo (Morocco). In the "Books" section, you can read an article by Dr. Asil al-Shabi (Tunisia) entitled "Words and Objects in Poetry Collection by Poet Mohammed Shahat."

The front cover and graphics featured in the "Creativity and Creators" section are borrowed from Syrian Artist Saad Yakan (1950). The editorial board of Merit Magazine includes: General Manager and Publisher Mohammed Hashem, Editor-in-Chief Poet Samir Darwish, Deputy Editor Adel Samih, and Managing Editor Sara al-Iskafi.
